- Escaldes - Engordany -
| This parish, which was created in 1978, is the last one in order of protocol. The name Escaldes is of Roman origin and refers to the hot springs the flow forth at a temperature of 70ºC, setting them among the warmest thermal waters in Europe. The development of this town, which is situated in the shady part of the valley, began in the 15th century with the creation of a textile industry that took advantage of the hot water to wash and dye wool. Although the most important population centre of the parish was originally Engordany, which stands in the sunny part of the valley, it was soon absorbed by the rapidly developing Escaldes. | |||
